Ford Recalls F-150 For Safety Assurance: Addressing Concerns
Ford Recalls F-150
Ford has issued a safety recall for certain F-150 pickup trucks, citing a potential issue with the driver’s side airbag inflator. The recall affects approximately 233,000 vehicles from the 2015-2018 model years.
According to Ford, the affected vehicles may contain an airbag inflator that could rupture in the event of a crash, potentially sending metal fragments into the vehicle’s cabin. This poses a serious safety risk to the driver and front passenger.
The recall includes vehicles manufactured between June 9, 2014, and December 21, 2017. Ford is advising affected owners to schedule an appointment with their nearest Ford dealership to have the airbag inflator replaced free of charge. The repair process is expected to take approximately one hour.
In a statement, Ford said, “Customer safety is our top priority, and we are taking this action out of an abundance of caution. We encourage all affected customers to schedule a repair appointment as soon as possible.”
This is not the first time Ford has recalled the F-150 for airbag inflator issues. In 2016, the company recalled approximately 1.2 million F-150s from the 2005-2014 model years due to a similar problem.
The airbag inflator issue is part of a wider problem with Takata airbags, which have been linked to numerous injuries and fatalities. Takata Corp., the Japanese manufacturer of the airbags, filed for bankruptcy in 2017.
Ford is one of several automakers that have recalled vehicles due to Takata airbag inflators. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has estimated that Takata airbags are responsible for at least 28 deaths and hundreds of injuries in the United States.
